Finding the right solution when caring for a loved one with dementia or another cognitive impairment can be a challenging task. For people who look after their loved one at home, along with balancing a career, family obligations and personal time, such care is often a big commitment. Understending this effort, and driven by our desire to help both seniors and their families, we have created the “Blocks Day Care Centre” – day care for seniors with dementia or other cognitive impairments.

What is 'Blocks Day Care Centre'?
The centre is a kind of day camp for the elderly people. Here, they can enjoy socializing, activities and lunch in company while receiving the necessary social care in a safe environment. “Blocks Adult/ Senior Day Care Centre” offers families who are caring for their loved one the time they need to work and take care of their personal needs, while having peace of mind that the elderly family member is safe and in good hands.

Why 'Blocks Day Care Centre'?
We are committed to caring for people over working age, including those with dementia or other cognitive impairments. Our role is to help them stay engaged and active. Our team is made up of highly qualified psychologists, health professionals, occupational therapists, rehabilitation therapists, kinesiotherapists/ and social assistants. For easier and quicker adaptation, each new user of the “Blocks Day Care Centre” goes through a transition period of a few days with a gradual increase in his daily stay with us. The purpose of this transition period is, on the one hand, for the centre team to get to know him, to understand his habits, interests and needs and, on the other hand, for his family to get to know the conditions in the centre, the team and the way we work, so that they feel calm about their loved one.

What we offer in 'Blocks Day Care Centre'?
All services at our center are focused on enriching the daily life of our users, maintaining and building on their skills and strengths, and providing social contact. The package of services provided includes:
- Health Services. A team of medical professionals takes care of the medications that seniors take. In case of any change in the health condition of our user, we immediately inform the relatives.
- Social activities. The activities are complied with the abilities and health condition of each individual participant. Activities include arts and crafts, musical entertainment and singing, mental stimulation games, discussion groups (about books, movies or current events), celebration of holidays and birthdays.
- Memory care programs. We realize how specific and different each individual’s needs are. The programs developed are aligned with practices also referred to as cognitive rehabilitation. We have a conversation with the relatives to build a detailed picture of activities that stimulate positive emotions in the user and bring them peace and joy.
- Nutrition. We provide a three-course menu for lunch and two intermediate snacks.
- Personal hygiene. The centre personnel helps with toilet and personal hygiene, moving and feeding, cleaning and assisting with daily activities if needed.
- Transportation. If our users and their relatives are interested, “Blocks Day Care Centre” provides transport from home to the centre and back.
- Consultations for families. We also provide support to the relatives of our users, together with our partners from the Compassion Alzheimer Bulgaria Foundation.

Safety
The safety of the people we care for is of prime importance. On admission we carry out a falls risk assessment. We strictly comply with fire safety regulations, by providing clear escape routes, fire resistant walls and doors; smoke and heat detectors, fire extinguishers; and we supervise any use of electrical appliances by our users. Centre flooring prevents slipping, even when wet. Lighting is designed to be glare-free and bright.

“Blocks Adult/ Senior Day Care Centre” has a qualified team of clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, kinesiotherapists, occupational therapists and social assistants, who take care of the tranquility and enjoyable time of all our users. The goal of each member of our team is to provide a safe environment, adequate care and a variety of activities. It is important to us that our consumers are satisfied with their time spent at the center and that their families have peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving quality care.

Conditions in 'Blocks Day Care Centre'
The centre is located in a detached house which is part of the Blocks Health and Social Care Campus at the foot of the Vitosha Mountain. The view of the mountain, the fresh air and the green areas around the house make the place extremely pleasant for walks and outdoor activities. The facilities includes a spacious living area, large and bright dining room, a place to relax and equipped kitchen area where our users can join in the preparation of favorite dishes.
